The Stardust, Door 8
The Stardust glittered with a thousand borrowed lights. Seven doors stood open. The eighth was closed.
She knocked once. No answer. Again. Silence. When she finally stopped knocking, the door opened.
Inside stood a shattered mirror, her reflection in a hundred pieces. No longer waiting to be chosen, she painted her own face in every color they said was too much.
She had come to find something to hold on to. Instead, she opened her hands, and tiny stars rose into the darkness.
And there she stood with all her beautiful fragments, still whole enough to dance.
Perhaps she had never been broken. And whoever she had been before was none of their business.
